Karşı Church (Saint John's Church) in Gülşehir, Nevşehir, is a two-storey Byzantine church carved into a cone-shaped rock mass. The building and its wall paintings are dated to the 13th century from an emperor's name in its inscription. Its upper barrel vault carries eleven New Testament scenes, including the Last Supper, the Deposition and the Anastasis, making it one of the region's notable painted churches.
