Along the quiet streets of Sultangazi, the Water Pool, bearing the marks of time, stands as a silent witness to Istanbul's ancient past. These structural remains, surviving from antiquity to the present, offer valuable information about the region's history of water management and settlement. The brick and stone remains visible in the walls of the Water Pool reflect architectural features of the Byzantine and Ottoman periods; some researchers suggest that the structure may have a history reaching as far back as the Roman period. The ceramic fragments and metal finds recovered from archaeological excavations are evidence that this was an important settlement center in antiquity. Damaged and ruined in places, the structure has all but turned into a museum of history where it merges with the surrounding vegetation. For history enthusiasts, do not forget to explore the other archaeological sites in Sultangazi while visiting the Water Pool; the early morning hours, when the clear light illuminates the structural remains most beautifully, are the ideal time to visit.
