Editor's Note
Today the Koç Holding facilities stand on the site of the Emine Sultan Mansion. On the present site of the facilities there once stood a mansion, thought to have been built in the early 20th century, that Sultan Abdülaziz (r. 1861-76) gave as a wedding gift to his youngest daughter Emine Sultan (1873-1920), who was married in 1901 to the then-governor of Istanbul, Mehmed Şerif Pasha (Çavdaroğlu) (1873-1958). The mansion, known at the time as the Emine Sultan Mansion or Palace, had a large and beautiful pool, and its grove-like garden, surrounded by high walls, had gates opening onto it from every street.
