Editor's Note
Described in an inscription dated 1626 as the 'mosque of the lower imperial kitchen,' this small mosque was built for the cooks. It is accepted that the two-storey timber mosque, which had an attic gallery, had its seaward façade raised together with the building and its upper windows enlarged in the 18th century; it contains foundation (vakıf) inscriptions. The palace kitchens are known to have had three small mosques, for the prayers of the halva-makers, the pantry staff and the cooks.
