Editor's Note
This mosque, built within the Golden Horn Shipyard in 1730, was founded by Rabia Hatun, the wife of Mehmet Emin Ağa, the shipyard's superintendent. Rabia Hatun is buried in the graveyard of the Mehmet Emin Ağa fountain next to the Dolmabahçe Mosque. During the Republican years the mosque's minaret was demolished and the building was turned into the Naval High School. Work on redesigning the stone basins began again in 2008. Survey, restitution and restoration project studies were started for the registered historic structures. In 2006 the mosque's inscription was found among the weeds and translated from Ottoman Turkish into modern Turkish.
