This is a mansion built by the Burla family, one of the wealthy families of the era, on land that previously held a chapel, at their summer retreat in Pendik. The family lived here until the 1970s, and after they moved away, the building fell into neglect, though not as badly as the chapel. A part of it has since been turned into the Kemal Tahir Library through a successful restoration. The grove and this island have been registered as a First-Degree Natural Conservation Area.
