Editor's Note
History: The history of Dragos dates back to the 6th century. Located within the boundaries of the Maltepe and Kartal districts, Dragos was one of the important settlement centers of the Anatolian side during the Byzantine and Ottoman periods. [1] Today it lies between the Kartal and Maltepe district boundaries. The name Maltepe carries the meaning of "hill where treasure is found." Maltepe took its name from a legend about Dragos. The name Dragos, meaning dragon, derives from an imaginary treasure said to be on this hill (Dragos Hill) and the dragon that guarded it.
