Editor's Note
In the work known as Hadikatü'l-Cevami, it is noted that the founder of this mosque was a man named Attar Halil Ağa, the location of whose grave is unknown, and that he also had a second mosque near Unkapanı, known as the Arabacılar Mosque. From this it is inferred that Attar Halil Ağa was a wealthy tradesman who lived in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. In fact, Halil Ağa's mosque in Yenibahçe stood on the site of the Rüstem Pasha Mosque, within the commercial district between Eminönü and Unkapanı.
