Editor's Note
The Caferağa Mosque was built on Ayık Fırın Street in the Şehremini İbrahim Çavuş neighbourhood of Istanbul's walled city. Its original patron was Yusuf Fakih Efendi, a notable of the reign of Mehmed the Conqueror. After the mosque fell into ruin and its endowment into disarray over time, Yaya Başı Cafer Ağa, one of the corps commanders, rebuilt it and revived its endowment. The endowment dates to 1516. The endowment comprised 2,000 akçe in cash along with houses. Hamami Halil Ağa had the mosque's minbar installed in 1679.
