Editor's Note
REŞİTPAŞA FOUNTAIN: This fountain, standing in the square in front of the Reşit Paşa Mosque in the Reşit Paşa neighborhood, is a large public square fountain (AH 1277 / AD 1860). Built after the death of Reşid Pasha, its inscription reads: "Spending his wealth like water in this transient world / his children gladly endow it in honor of the former Grand Vizier / behold, this spring became the heart-pleasing fountain of the new quarter / may whoever drinks remember that benevolent Grand Vizier Reşid / let them, day and night, draw down mercy upon that statesman / may the Bountiful One make all his noble children flourish / Safvet wrote its chronogram with a drop of the abundance—read it / may the soul of Reşid Pasha rejoice in this noble fountain (AH 1278)."
