Editor's Note

The Çubuk-1 Dam is a concrete gravity dam on the Çubuk Stream, located 12 km north of central Ankara. Built between 1930 and 1936 to control floods and supply drinking water to the city, its inauguration on 3 November 1936 was attended by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. It was the first concrete dam constructed in Turkey and is recognized by the country's Chamber of Civil Engineers as one of its top 50 engineering feats.
