Hamidiye Medresesi

Built in 1897, the Hamidiye Madrasa has not survived to the present day. Located immediately to the west of the Ürgübi Mescit, the madrasa was converted into a primary (sıbyan) school in 1918 and continued teaching under the name 'Ümid-i Teceddüt Primary School'. The school building, later renamed 'Ulucanlar School' (Model School), had an additional storey added after the proclamation of the Republic and was renamed 'Cumhuriyet Primary School'. In 1961 this building and about ten surrounding adobe houses were demolished, and the new building of Cumhuriyet Primary School, which still stands today, was erected on the cleared site.
