Editor's Note

Located on Mithatpaşa Avenue, the Head Office building was originally built with four floors above a basement and ground level, and three more floors were added in the 1970s. With its rectangular plan arranged around a skylit inner courtyard, the building conforms to the 1950s typology of the modernist high-rise office block through its plain façade arrangement, while the stone-clad sections of the façade carry on the local accents of the 1940s. This design by Bonatz is an example of the buildings in which the architect, who played an active role in Turkey during the Second World War, sought to adapt to the postwar sensibility.
