The affinities between this work and Adler & Sullivan's Auditorium Building in Chicago (1887–1889), an icon of early modern architecture—especially the plan's concept of placing the theatre inside the block—are very close. Source: Modernism and Nation Building, Sibel Bozdoğan, 2001. Orhan Veli, Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar and the painter Saip Tuna lived in this apartment building.
