Editor's Note
According to his endowment deed of 1480, Çakır Ağa, one of the Nimelceyş and a police chief of Istanbul who held important posts in the reigns of Sultan Murad II and Mehmed the Conqueror, had a dervish lodge and a public soup kitchen built in Silivri. These were the first structures erected in Silivri after the conquest of Istanbul. Around this site on the grounds of the Piri Mehmet Paşa Primary School, arranged for the food and rest of travellers passing through Silivri, there were stables that fed travellers' animals free of charge. The road that passed in front of it was the Egnatian Way.
