Editor's Note
It was built at an altitude of 2,850 meters during the reign of Abdülhamid II, between 1884 and 1896, to a design drawn up by Şahap Paşa, in order to control the valley south of Palandöken Mountain and the Palandöken Pass that begins there and leads to Erzurum. The Little Palandöken Redoubt consists of a headquarters, barracks and artillery rooms, plus a structure to the left of the entrance whose purpose remains unknown, since it cannot be entered owing to its ruined state. The entire roofing system of the redoubt is barrel-vaulted. The barracks section, made up of 27 rooms, has four doors opening onto the courtyard.
