Editor's Note
The Church of St. Polyeuctus was a Byzantine church in Constantinople, built by the noblewoman Anicia Juliana and dedicated to Saint Polyeuctus. A lavishly decorated building, it was the largest church in the city before the Hagia Sophia. It introduced the large-scale use of Sassanid Persian decorative elements and may have inaugurated the domed-basilica type later perfected in the Hagia Sophia.
