Editor's Note
The building has no inscription. However, in the 1512 endowment of Cafer Çelebi, recorded as "the endowment of the late Mevlana Cafer Çelebi, son of Taci Bey," there is mention of a caravanserai in Bergama with an annual income of 13,084 akçe, comprising rooms on the lower and upper floors, a stable, and many shops. According to Bozkurt Ersoy, no other building in Bergama, including those now demolished, fits this description, so the structure referred to must be the Çukur Han. The han today awaits restoration and is in poor condition.
