Beneath the terrace of the Yaman Dede Mosque lie shops formed by rows of stone arches, known locally as 'tol.' In Kayseri and its surroundings, especially in stone architecture, a 'tol' refers to an arrangement in which arched openings are lined up one after another on the ground floor, with a shop, storeroom, or stable usually set behind each arch, while the top is closed off by a terrace, courtyard, or another section of the building.
