Editor's Note
The Hagia Panagia Church (Upper Neighborhood Greek Church) is a monumental Greek Orthodox church dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It was built in 1837 together with the two-story bell tower beside it. It was probably built in place of a smaller church that had previously stood on the same site. The fact that it was built despite the legal restrictions of the period suggests that the dome and bell tower may have been added later. Its architecture is striking for its Neoclassical influences, its dome, and its bell tower. Although it remains partly intact today, the building is used as a barn and has suffered serious structural deterioration.
