Editor's Note
The Alâeddin Hospital, or Alâeddin Dârüşşifa, was built in 1221 according to its inscription. That it was commissioned by Alâeddin Keykubad I (1220-1237), one of the sultans of the Anatolian Seljuks, is understood from the fact that Seljuk documents refer to the building as the "Alâeddin Dârü'ş-şifâ." Its endowment deed has not yet been identified. The hospital stood to the north of Alâeddin Hill, at the point where the Ferhuniye and Sakahane neighborhoods intersect, and today it falls within the bounds of City Square.
