The Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı Museum, in the Sur district of Diyarbakır, occupies the house built in 1733 where the poet Cahit Sıtkı Tarancı was born and raised; he was born here on 2 October 1910. The historic house was purchased and restored by the Ministry of Culture in 1973 and opened as a museum on 29 October 1973, the 50th anniversary of the Republic. After renovation in 2011-2012 it reopened to visitors on International Museum Day, 18 May.
