Editor's Note
Of the two baths at Olympos, this one, also called the "Great Bath" because of its larger size, is understood from a surviving inscription to have been built during the reign of Vespasian, around AD 70 ("Caesar Vespasianus Augustus, lord of land and sea, had this bath built from its foundations through the foresight of his legate and propraetor Gnaeus Avidius"). The building's frigidarium, tepidarium, and caldarium sections are still standing. When the architecture of these sections is examined, it is clear that they are of monumental proportions.
