Editor's Note
The Defter-i Hakani was the Ottoman office where land registry records and cadastral ledgers were kept. The building on Sultanahmet Square in Istanbul, completed between 1908 and 1910, was designed by Vedat Tek, a pioneer of the First National Architectural Movement. Long used as the land registry directorate, it was transferred to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2020 to be used as a museum.
