Editor's Note

The Koca Ragıp Pasha Library in the Laleli quarter of Istanbul came into service in the 18th century. Part of a complex endowed by Koca Ragıp Pasha, grand vizier of Mustafa III and a divan poet, the Baroque-style building was completed on 2 March 1763. Its reading room is covered by a main dome 12.3 metres high; the building has been temporarily closed since the 1999 Marmara earthquake.
