Editor's Note
The Beyazıt State Library, formerly the Ottoman Public Library, has served since 1884 in two historic buildings facing Beyazıt Square, near the Bayezid Mosque and the historic Sahaflar (booksellers') Market. It is the first state-founded library in Turkey and, as a legal-deposit library, holds nearly one million documents, of which 11,120 are manuscripts. After the Hakkı Tarık Us Collection was transferred to it in 2003, its newspaper and periodical section became one of the most important archives in Turkey.
