Editor's Note
The SSK Zeyrek Complex stands on Atatürk Boulevard in the Zeyrek quarter of Istanbul's Fatih district, formerly used as the directorate building of the Social Insurance Institution (SSK). Designed by architect Sedad Hakkı Eldem and built between 1962 and 1964, it is a modern structure that blends into its historic setting, drawing on traditional Turkish architectural elements such as wide eaves, rows of windows and projecting bays. Eldem won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture for this work in 1986.
