Story
Near the historic square of Konak, the Abacıoğlu Han is an important landmark that carries the commercial vitality of the Ottoman era into the present. With the fountain in the middle of its courtyard and its exterior adorned with stonework, the building is an impressive example of classical caravanserai architecture. Located in Izmir, a center of the Silk Road trade, this structure provided lodging and trading opportunities for merchants, craftsmen, and travelers. Different trade groups worked on the various floors of the han, so that the building hosted a life much like a small city. Traces of an East-West synthesis can be seen in its architectural details. On your visit, don't forget to sit around the courtyard over a cup of coffee and immerse yourself in the rhythm of life from centuries ago; in the morning hours, the building's finest light and quiet atmosphere enhance the experience.
