The Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM), running along the eastern side of Taksim Square in Istanbul, is a concert hall, theatre and cultural complex used for opera, ballet, theatre, concerts and congresses, and also contains an exhibition hall and cinema. Originally opened on 12 April 1969, it was closed for renovation in 2008, demolished in 2018 and rebuilt in 2021. Reopened on 29 October 2021 after a 13-year interval, the new building was designed by Murat Tabanlıoğlu, son of Hayati Tabanlıoğlu who had designed the original AKM.
