Set on the historic squares of Bayraklı, the Braggiotti House is one of the finest works left by Izmir's Levantine era. Built in the late 19th century, it is a rare example in which European and local architectural styles embrace one another. With its neoclassical lines, the house captivates the eye with its tall windows, period carved-wood detailing, and the curved bay windows of its balconies. Through this mansion, the Levantine merchant family Braggiotti made their weight felt in the commercial life of the Aegean. Researchers have searched the original flooring and ceiling-corner motifs of the house for the signatures of master craftsmen brought from Istanbul. On a visit, as you approach the house at sunset, you can feel how the rose hue rising from its historic surfaces calls you onto a wistful journey.
