Located in the historic center of Niksar, the Hoca Sultan Fountain is a fine example of the elegant architecture of the Ottoman period. Worked from stone and marble, its structure met the town's need for water for centuries while also standing at the heart of communal life. This monument, which bears the name Hoca Sultan, was probably built in the 16th or 17th century in memory of one of the era's leading figures, serving both a spiritual and a practical function. The details in the fountain's stonework, especially the inscriptions and geometric motifs, clearly reflect the mastery of Ottoman craftsmen. Niksar's strategic position at the junction of the Bogazlayan and Kelkit rivers gave the town its historical importance, and fountains became centers of social life in this significant hub. When you visit, we recommend wandering the narrow streets around the structure and exploring the region's other historic buildings.
