Editor's Note
Mardin Kapı, also known as Tel Kapı, is one of the four main gates of the Diyarbakır city walls and stands on the south side of the city. According to an inscription on the gate, it was repaired in 909-910 with the support of Caliph al-Muqtadir Billah and his vizier Ali bin Muhammad, by the Amid engineer Ahmed. It takes its name from being situated on the road to Mardin and inspired the folk song 'Mardin Kapı Şen Olur'.
