Editor's Note
The Ünye Castle Rock Tomb is carved into the rock mass on the southeastern face of Ünye Castle, about 7 km northeast of central Ünye in Ordu Province. Eagle reliefs flank and center its triangular pediment, while coloured frescoes on the walls and ceiling of the antechamber suggest it may later have served as a monk's cell. Its formal similarities to Pontic royal tombs date it to the Hellenistic period, while the eagle reliefs point to the Roman era.
